2006 Zonte’s Footstep Shiraz-Viognier, Langhorne Creek, Australia, Six months more mature than the French sauvignon, owing to Australia’s southern hemisphere harvest, and already oozing ripe, perfumed, burly, 14.5% alcohol berry fruit spice.

Another example of supermarket rubbish. The nose has some shiraz varietal character but also that horrible smell of sweet pastilles. As soon as the wine hits your tastebud layers and layers of sugar bury, drown and suffocate any other taste. No tannins, no acidy and freshness, no life, no complexity: just an enduring feeling of disappointment. A waste of time and money.

Saw a review of this wine on a TV show and thought it was worth a go - weird packaging (big red foot!) but absolutely lovely wine and would definitely recommend it. Spicy but really well rounded, simply yummy!

This wine is enormous in size and has excellent concentration, and oodles of spicy red and black fruits, and would be a bit heavy if it were not undercut by a zingy apricotty zing from the Viognier. This wine ends long and purposefully. It is even more impressive when on promotion and is a "must try".

A real thumper of an Aussie Shiraz, all powerful pepper and spice in the mouth and packing a big alcoholic punch but then...just at it hits the throat, a splash of unexpected zingy creamy lemony viognier makes this an unexpected treat. This is a bulldog of a wine but one that has been house trained! Try it-the Aussies blend the two grapes in the French style so well (probably because global warming is making their big reds err very big indeed). It's not the most subtle wine I've ever experienced but it has a certain style all of its own-good VFM too.

Wasn't sure about this simply with the mix of grape, but the viognier softened it so that it didn't seem as heavy. Smooth, peppery, spicey and dark. Served it with a steak dish and a mushroom dish and it performed against both! And good to drink on it's own too! Gorgeous!

Somerfield sometimes put this wine on promotion (£2 off) which is great news because then I can stock up to satisfy my liquorice addiction! It's a spicy big curranty red and I cannot get enough of it. Since it's quite a heavy wine in my opinion it would probably be best to drink with a 'meaty' meal.
