I was apprehensive of this wine, since my only experience with Zinfandel comes from a bottle of Gallo rose. But this is absolutely stunning. Smooth, rich red fruit flavours are followed by a peppery aftertaste, with touches of spice and, strangely, mint. The initial taste is light and fruity, but there''s also a second, more savoury layer. It''s like a really fruity Shiraz, and for just under £7 in Tesco''s, this is fantastic value. I would definitely recommend it for something a bit different.

If your only experience of Zin has been those nasty, thin, acidic bottles of fruit juice that are always on special offer, try this: it's bold, big, dark fruit-scented and is dangerously addictive. I love the chewy tannins and the long finish.

A instant classic and a well rounded classic California red in the style of the better French reds. The 2002 vintage was very good not as good as the 2001 if you can find it around grab it. A wine packed with vibrant red fruits with a deep ruby red colour with a nice hint of oak, French and American. when buying this wine it will be sold as a full bodied wine but it is really a medium its a real steal at £7.55 from Waitrose.

Now I wouldn't normally buy Californian wine but since this wine was recommended to me and Somerfield were selling the wine on promotion at £5.53 (!) then I thought that I would give this wine a go. I was pleasantly surprised by this full bodied red which was fruity and spicy. It went down really well at our dinner party; we served it with a roast beef and our guests were won over as well.
