I drunk this with some cheese and olives. Not as smooth or fruity as i would have hoped, but gulpable all the same. Nice but a little over priced.

I drank the 1994 Montes Cabernet at the New Year. It had lasted very well and outdrank many of the meagre offerings coming from Bordeaux that year! It tasted like a Cru Classe Margaux, and my tasting notes will reveal why. It had lovely dusty, clove infused blueberries, plums and spice aromas and flavours. Its medium bodied palate was linear in density with opulent and silky fruit, intertwined with a hedonistic mouthfeel, and a nice freshness, all coming together on the medium length finish which had a hint of liquorice on it. This was an understated, beautiful and complex wine, and shows that some Chilean wines can age fantastically!

Montes has a massive reputation but this is only so-so. Yes, OK it's got all the trappings of good wine, but is overpriced and you can find better bargains elsewhere.
