I hate Australians... And I hate them not just because they are far better at cricket than us. But because everyone always thinks their wines are fantastic. I'm still desparately trying to find a good Aussie sparkler, but the truth is its just too hot to make a wine thats anyhting like as good as the French, Kiwis (or even we Brits) are making. Good fizz needs to enliven and uplift, not fill your mouth with big soft fruit. I wasnt refreshed by this, even though its the best Aussie I've tried. Slightly sicky aroma and a cloying aftertaste that goes for too long. If you like this sort of thing...But not for me... Having now tried it myself last weekend, I can really see why. First, it's about half the price of champers, and secondly it's really elegant and has a lovely subtly citus flavour with a slightly biscuity aftertaste. I was intrigued when I discovered that this is made by Moet Hennessy and proceeded to by a couple of bottles quick-smart.
