Luckily there are still traditional wines, that are enjoyable, not over-extracted, not too alcoholic, not too oaky and basically balanced and elegant. I have tried the 2003 and I was a little afraid for the very hot vintage has often produced bulky, overripe and jammy wines. This is not the case with this Rioja, which is medium bodied, elegant and has good acidity. A must when is half price! This wine is a superb example of a traditional Rioja, and a new modern style. It looks really smart and much more expensive than it is, and it is exactly the same with the taste. Loads of blackcurrant flavours and only a light oaky-vanilla flavour, which serves to uplift the fruit without drowning it.
