Luckily there are still traditional wines, that are enjoyable, not over-extracted, not too alcoholic, not too oaky and basically balanced and elegant. I have tried the 2003 and I was a little afraid for the very hot vintage has often produced bulky, overripe and jammy wines. This is not the case with this Rioja, which is medium bodied, elegant and has good acidity. A must when is half price!

This San Lorenzo is full mature fruit, not heavy and very easy to drink. The 2001 is really special and is drinking well now. I want another case now!

Will buy this one again, I had the 2002 wine and was really impressed - will be ordering more soon!

If you are ever lucky enough to find this on offer buy it! (especially the 2001) glides down beautifully, not too thick and leaves a wonderful aftertaste. Not to be wasted on the un-appreciating!

This wine is too easy to drink. It is extremely fruity for a Reserva and seems to be showing minimum oak influence. It is traditionally built in a linear medium bodied style without too much complexity. A steal when on offer at £4.99.

This wine is a superb example of a traditional Rioja, and a new modern style. It looks really smart and much more expensive than it is, and it is exactly the same with the taste. Loads of blackcurrant flavours and only a light oaky-vanilla flavour, which serves to uplift the fruit without drowning it. Not your average heavy-style Rioja, but a much more elegant and accessible version.
