I was in a restaurant last night celebrating a friend's birthday and wanted a nice, big red wine to accompany us and our meal. So we ordered Ariano Barbaresco. I was greatly disappointed and I even sent it back, which I almost never do. It was so unbalanced, with no finish, a bit polluted and over priced. I feel almost guilty saying all of this but in today's wine world, its almost more difficult to find bad wine than it is great wine. I'm sorry if there are any Ariano lovers out there whom I offended.

Moscato for me is something that I am beginning to like. There's a lot of hype about it right now but I tend to find the majority to syrupy with a hit of acidity that I dont appreciate. This Moscato I found exquisite. It's elegant, floral, well balanced and CLEAN- it doesn't leave that film in your mouth as I've found with others. If you dont think you're a moscato fan, try this one before you throw in the towel. Its worth trying.
I find a lot of barbera's too acidic for my personal taste but I was delightfully surprised by this well balanced Barbera that I recently found in my local wine shop. It's not overly oaky but still has lovely notes of vanilla as well as the floral aromas of Barbera. Full and smooth finish and delightful all around. I would recommend this to bring to someone's house as it is not overly expensive (around 25€) but widely pleasing.
