7/10 Value pinot - (Cono sur Pinot Noir)

Good value pinot noir are few and far between, so this one has earned a solid reputation as one of the better value for money pinot noirs. It shows typical varietal characters and is pleasurable and easy to drink. Rather polished than intriguing, it would be better if it were lighter in alcohol. Serve cool.

7/10 Good, but... - (Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon)

This is a very successful wine, as other reviewers and frequent praises in the press demonstrate. I definitely agree that the wine shows good quality, but I am not completely convinced by the style. I find the creaminess and vanilla of the oak too upfront and prevailing. The wine has body, texture, and richness but not much complexity and subtlety. I think it could be better with less american oak.

7/10 Modern and approachable Sangiovese - (Caldora La Maiella Sangiovese)

This is a very fruity (cherries) Sangiovese. Soft, easy to drink and good with food. It is not particularly distinctive and it is a little sweeter than you expected from an Italian wine, but is pleasant, perfumed and can be served cool.

8/10 Arniston Bay Chenin Blanc Chardonnay - (Arniston Bay Chenin Blanc Chardonnay)

I tried this at the weekend with some friends and really, really enjoyed it. It was a light and fruity wine that tasted all the better for being very, very chilled. Great value for money - I was impressed.

9/10 Love this wine! - (Nobilo White Cloud White)

I first tried this in Tescos in City Europe, near Calais, from a tasting stand. My partner and I both liked it, so bought a couple of bottles. Next time we went back, we bought a couple of cases! It is rare we find a wine we both actually like, but this one fits the bill. Highly recommended!

7/10 Why is it good for a wine to be flinty...? - (Stoneleigh Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc)

Im slightly confused by this wine, because Ive had it twice and both times it tasted totally different. I tried it at a wine tasting at work, and noted that it was a typical (and very good) example of a NZ Sauvignon Blanc - very sharp, citrusy and refrehing. I had it again in the evening a couple of days later, and tasted less citrus fruits and more tropical flavours and watermelon, not dissimilar to a Chardonnay. Theres a definite flinty aftertaste, and its extremely refreshing. I really enjoyed it!

8/10 A bit dryer than expected? - (Wolf Blass Presidents Selection Shiraz)

I was expecting a bank raid and instead I got a cat burgler. First impressions were that this lacked some of the spicy fruitiness I associate with Shiraz. After a glass or two the complexity became more apparent and, in the end, it was an enjoyable bottle, but my friend and I were a little drunk by then too. :-)

7/10 Not subtle but fun. - (Los Robles Fairtrade Carmenere)

This is a wine with some oomph! Rough, rich and deep, it kicks the door open and takes no prisoners. I enjoyed it but its not refined and definitely a wine to drink in moderation. Think of it as Mellors, and your palate as Lady Chatterly. :oD
