Now owned by the Dutch, Nyetimber has earned a good reputation for English fizz. Unfortunately the latest wines aren't up to the mark of previous vintages. There's better English wine now from both Chapel Down in Kent and Ridgeview in Sussex - both are slightly cheaper and much cleaner and better made. I hope it gets back to its best soon, but my latest bottle from Waitrose was pretty poor and at £22 not cheap. Go for the Chapel Down Pinot Reserve or the Ridgeview Merret Bloomsbury for better wine and better value. |
