BBC Good Food Shows

The LoveThatWine team is on the road for most of November at the BBC Good Shows. This weekend is Glasgow's turn to host the first ever Good Food Show in that city and coming up soon are the Good Food Shows at London Olympia (16-18 November) and Birmingham N.E.C. (28th November - 2nd December). We have five pairs of tickets to give away for each event, so come and join us at the show for a chat with our wine experts and a glass of champagne - or just the glass of champagne! More...

California's Smoked Wines

No, this isn't a reference to the wild fires that tragically swept southern California last month but to the taste preferences of the US wine consumer. Not surprisingly, Californian whites are made to suit US tastes and, for example, the oaked Sauvignon Blancs or Fumé Blancs are quite different in style and character from other New World Sauvignons. Americans don't drink a lot of wine per capita and when they do drink, they like BIG wines. Sweeping generalisation that may well be but some of us here think Sauvignon Blanc (all white wine, surely?) is best drunk young and should taste only of grapes, not oak, nor the sulfites that are used to prolong bottle life and sometimes give white wine a 'smoky' taste...

Angela Mount, LoveThatWine's globetrotting MD, was in California last month sampling some of the state's produce... Read Angela's thought-provoking report on the blog:

"Secret" 40% Thresher Voucher Unearthed?

Last year's Threshers 40% discount voucher got us marketing types all enviously worked up about the power of 'viral marketing'. Are they at it again this year? Our forum moles seem to think so!

Champion Reviewers

The three winners of last month's Organico competition are David Hamm, Matthew Gatt and Kristen Black.

LoveThatWine's Reviewers of the Month for September and October are Dale Hurman and Giovanni de Grandis who have both earned themselves £50 of Virgin Wine Vouchers for their efforts. As an example, read Giovanni's review of the M&S Vin de Pays de L'Ardeche Gamay. Mmmm... that's on my list for the next sandwich buying excursion!

Tuscan Idyll

The delightful Castello di Gabbiano in the heart of Tuscany is not only an imposing 12th century castle where you can stay - or dine in the highly-rated restaurant - but also the home of the Gabbiano wines that are being introduced into the UK for the first time.

We love Tuscan wines and have a mixed 12-bottle case of Gabbiano to give away in our exclusive Last Drop competition.

The search is now on for November's champion wine reviewer. So why not try your hand and earn yourself £50 of Virgin Wine Vouchers into the bargain? The only qualification you need to enter, apart from a desire to share your wine reviews with others, is that you have reviewed at least two of your favourite (or least favourite!) wines in the current month.
