Good food, chilled red wine and the blog

If you visited last month's BBC Good Food Summer Festival at Birmingham's NEC you will probably have come across the LoveThatWine team (photos on the blog). While Angela was busy being MC to the Celebrity Chefs in the presentation theatre, the rest of the team were doing the hard work of pouring samples of some of the latest wines that are featured on our web site. It was great to meet so many of you in person and we'll be back at the next Good Food events in November. Once again, we will be giving away pairs of tickets, exclusively to readers of the Last Drop. Watch the blog for dates and venues!

Red wine you can chill. A chilled glass of something on a summer's evening always goes down well but chilled red? Surely not...

Saltram House Open Air Concert

What better way to try out a recommended wine than in breathtaking surroundings of Saltram House, Plymouth on a hot summer's day? We have a pair of tickets, worth £28 each, to give away to a lucky reader and have arranged with the Met Office that this year's Hot Summer's Day will take place on Saturday18th August, the same day as the concert.

So, put away those gumboots and picture yourself sitting outside listening to fabulous live music from the National Symphony Orchestra and enjoying a spectacular aerial display in the skies by an original WW2 Spitfire. Bring a picnic, sit back and relax in an outstanding location of Saltram House and a Proms concert with a difference!

Featured wine...

If you haven’t seen it on shelves already, look out for the newly released Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2004. Penfolds Chief Winemaker, Peter Gago describes the 2004 vintage as "one of the best in recent memory". Click the link below to listen to Peter talking about the Penfolds Bin system, the outstanding 2004 vintage and Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz. The blurb says, "Quintessentially Australia, Bin 28 is bold, rich and unashamedly Shiraz". We say, delightful now as a 3 year old wine but better still if you can bear to keep it!

Spotlight on Greek Wines

Most people associate Greece with the warmth of her people and the wonderful scenery of the mountains, rugged coastline and the many delightful islands. An association with top quality wine however, would surprise those of us who never quite managed to acquire a taste for retsina! Modern Greek wines are an undiscovered treasure and the dry whites have been compared with sauvignon blanc, which is also grown in its own right. To prove the point, we've got together with Greek Wines specialist, Orchard Hive and Vine to offer readers of The Last Drop the opportunity to savour some of Greece's finest...
