Don’t pass the port . . . Pass Periquita - Portugal’s Best Kept Secret
Lovethatwine.co.uk has teamed up with Periquita, Portugal’s favourite wine, to offer two lucky subscribers the chance to win a mixed case of Periquita Red 2005 and Periquita White 2007. Periquita is one of the best kept secrets in wine. One of the oldest Portuguese wine brands, Periquita has been produced since the late 1840s on the José Maria da Fonseca estate situated on the sandy soils of the Setubal peninsula, in the south east of Lisbon. Throughout its 158 year history Periquita has remained unparalleled in Portuguese winegrowing, not only for its longevity and heritage but above all for its capacity to change and adapt with the times.
Periquita’s wines are Periquita Red and Periquita White. The Castelão, Trincadeira and Aragoney grape varieties in the Periquita Red wine give a spicy and fruity nose with a full-bodied flavour of dark berries and coffee. Excellent served with red meat, roasts, tapas dishes, pasta dishes, game and cheese.
The Periquita White is made from a blend of the Moscatel de Setubal (80%) and Arinto (20%) grapes. Fresh and zesty with bright citrus fruits and a crisp acidity, the wine is superb served well-chilled as an aperitif and is a perfect match for seafood.
